log_nov

here's doing a lil log update for the last month.

most of my work has been going towards production of the short film. the storyboards and character designs were concrete and now i'm animating the 2D scenes. right now i'm going thru random parts of the short and filing them in like a jigsaw. this is much more efficient than say filling from start to finish as i can change things more easier plus it makes me focus on the flow and pacing at this stage. towards the end, i can add more visual flare.

i've also been working on the models and enivronments for the 3D scenes. most of the character models as of writing are in the ugly phase like with most art you make. it can feel especially time consuming when you make your models from scratch. 2D and 3D animation are used mostly seperate the two main worlds. the 2D world is grimy and textured. i plan to make the backgrounds using traditional methods like acrylic and watercolour alongside collage. the 3D world is more psychedllic and a bit sleek. the y2k aesthetic and the revival of it in the last few years is a slight inspiration.

this work is not new for me. it is my main practice after all but i also came here to challenge my creativity and do a bit of exploration. charlie the studio tutor, suggested collaging which i tried. i managed to grab cardboard and various magazines from my home to use. there is fun in gathering up materials, experimenting and freestyling to create images. collage works moreso for me when it's instantanous & irrational. alongside some watercolour, this degree has given me the opportunity to work with traditional mediums which i hadn't had much time to explore since high school.
