hi there! i'm cherri, an animator/cartoonist based in aberdeen starting in Gray's School of Art. this is the first post of a weekly blog documenting this year and what i will create. this blog actually counts as coursework as well so updating it is vital. to go with a web 1.0-influenced blog as opposed to social media means i can present my work and thoughts with no compromises as well as avoiding the patterns/habits that social media can lead you down. i will post updates relating to my MA on my socials but those pages not as frequently as on here. enough blabber. here's my week:
friday (16/9): Induction day! met most of the people the course and had a good overview.
monday (19/9): despite it being a public holiday, i took some time to start work on website and research for my project and get a good graps of what areas i wanted to reach.
tuesday (20/9): bit chaotic as the workshop induction didn't happen but got studio space sorted and spent the day adjusting to the new enviornment and started work with some development sketches. had a good chat with Jon, my course leader about areas of interest.

wednesday (21/9): got some thumbnails for the beginning of the short down alongside more sketches alongside designing this blog.
thursday(22/9): got my masters blog live! undergoing research and more sketches and started some concept art even. afternoon saw a talk with studio tutor charlie going over my proposal.
friday (23/9): first crit session though we decided to have a chill show and tell where everyone showed off their work and influences. everyone had a great variety of disciplines and influences though my imposter syndrome tried to take advantage of this situation. I was quite jittery but managed to say what i wanted to say despite the smartboard at the CCS room throttling when my video played. c'est la vie i say.
overall: nice first week! quite a bit to take in but i didn't feel the dread i felt in the first weeks during undergrad.
fun stuff: got to see one of my favourite movies, Monsters, Inc. in a cinema last weekend. went all out with the snacks. seeing this film with high end sound system and giant screen was a delight as i only watched the film through home media. i also read nagata kabi's my wandering warrior existence. her latest piece of autobio manga touches upon here lack of inexperience in love and relationships which struck home for me more than it should but puts a lot of energy and imagination into her storytelling and takes advantage of the medium.
every week, i will to pick two songs to end things on. being a big fan of mcr, i will leave you on not only one of my favourite songs from them but a solo cut from frontman gerard way. got to see them in concert this may and to see your favourite band/singer of all time live is experience like no other. it feels like the end of a big journey which it kinda was as i used the concert as a end of undergrad celebration. see you next week!
